"Student Art and Essay: What Can I Create Using Solar Energy"

More than 180 entries for the 2008 Student Art and Essay Contest will be on display April 10 through May 29, at the Palm Desert Community Gallery located at the Visitor Center.  Palm Desert students in grades K through 12 were challenged to write an essay or create art reflecting this year's theme, "Student Art and Essay:  What Can I Create Using Solar Energy?"

In its twenty-third year, this program has become an integral part of the curriculum throughout Palm Desert schools.  The purpose of the annual contest is to encourage students to discover their talents and reach their fullest potential. The Art in Public Place Commission selects the theme which helps guide the students' creativity while promoting a sense of pride in our community.

The winning entries will be announced at a special awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, at the Visitor Center.

The Palm Desert Community Gallery, located at 72-567 Highway 111, is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission is free. For more information, please call 568-5240.
